Description

Class Experience

This is a class for visual and kinesthetic learners who need to do more than just read a book cover to cover. Through a combination of drawing, writing, cooking, watching the movie, and discussing, students will have every opportunity to immerse themselves in this fabulous book!
Students will need to read the book between classes in order to be able to participate in the activities and discussions. Between weeks 3 and 4, students will need to make the snack (optional) and watch the movie based off of the book.
Read by Week 1: Chapters 1-4
Read by Week 2: Chapters 5-8
Read by Week 3: Chapters 9-12
By Week 4: make snack and watch movie
- The book, "Mary Poppins" by P. L. Travers, found on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Mary-Poppins-Dr-P-Travers/dp/0544439562/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1622834915&sr=8-1.
- The movie, "Mary Poppins", found on Amazon to rent or buy at https://www.amazon.com/Mary-Poppins-Anniversary-Julie-Andrews/dp/B0095R6OUO/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=mary+poppins+movie&qid=1622835124&sr=8-2.
- A journal of any type! I love Canson Mixed Media journals due to their unlined pages and spiral binding.
- Pencils, pens, colored pencils, markers - any art supplies that you enjoy for journaling!
- The supply list for the snack will be provided during the 3rd week of class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
With all movies, I suggest that parents check out Common Sense Media to see if the movie is in alignment with your family's values. Here's the link to the movie, "Mary Poppins": https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/mary-poppins. The movie is rated G.
When discussing the story arc, we will be using Adam Andrews' curriculum, "Teaching the Classics". He has graciously granted me permission to use his resources in my classes.
