Class Experience

In this creative camp, we will take a journey deep into the imagination. Here, we will discover the gems of personal creativity that are waiting within, for a time to shine!

Day 1 - We begin todays class with introductions and a slideshow of uplifting imagery to inspire creative possibilities, and foster a sense of wonderment. This is followed by a guided meditation, allowing students to drop into their bodies and meet their own magical world within. Students will be given journal prompts to help them transfer their 'Imagined World' experience, onto the page, so that it can begin to take shape in reality. This creative writing will become the blueprint from which we begin to create our photographs. A time for sharing will be provided.

Day 2 - After a short breathing exercise to help us drop back into our creative space, we will look at practical methods to help us transform our ideas into images. Together, we will reflect on the different elements to consider when creating story through imagery. There will be a time for the sharing of ideas, questions and discussion. At the conclusion of this class, learners are ready to go out and begin making their own photographs! They are encouraged to continue expanding their concepts at home, and are invited to create 3-5 images before our next class, that speak to the experience of their 'Imagined World'.

Day 3 - Our final class will be an exciting culmination of the week! Learners will have the opportunity to share and talk to their photographs, celebrate one another's creativity, and to offer interpretations of each others work through kind feedback. We will create a short piece of poetic writing to accompany our final images, as we continue to honour the depths of our imagination and all of the possibilities it holds.

Please Note...

- A DSLR camera is not a requirement for this class. Any camera, including a phone or i-pad will suffice (this will only be used for 'at home' learning after the class).

- Students are requested to upload their images to the class portal at least 12 hours prior to our final meeting, so that they can be a part of the final presentation/ show and tell.

- This class is not highly focussed on the technical aspects of photography, but rather teaches learners to draw from their imagination and open the creative pathways of make believe, when creating photographs. No prior knowledge of photography is required.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I hold a 'Bachelor of Fine Arts - Majoring in Photography’ as well as a ‘Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts - Majoring in Contemporary Dance’. I have been weaving these arts forms together for many years, sharing teachings of creativity with students along the way. I created a photography business in 2005, and since then have cultivated my own way of visual storytelling with dancers, movers and other creatives.

I have taught in both Primary and High Schools in New Zealand (5-18years) and have lead NCEA Year 13 level classes in creative conception/ choreography modules. I have also taught community classes in dance, drama, choreography and storytelling since 2004.

I am a certified Sattva Yoga Teacher (200hr YTT), trained in leading Meditation, Pranayama (Breathwork), Asana, Kriya, and free movement practices. This integrated approach to Yoga stems from the Vedic Himalayan tradition. I received my certification through Sattva Academy of Yoga, which is located in the foothills of this sacred mountain range in India.

I spent 2019 living and working at 'The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies' as well as a retreat centre in Hawaii. During this time I was lucky enough to learn from some of the worlds greatest heart centred teachers and thought leaders. Omega is a global community whose aim is to 'Awaken the best in the human spirit and cultivate the extraordinary potential that exists in us all.' I feel deeply aligned with these values as both a teacher and a human on this beautiful earth.

My classes reflect this and honour a holistic approach to creativity.
