Class Experience

- Students will learn to draw from their imagination to open the creative pathways of make believe.
- Students will be introduced to the creative elements of photography for storytelling and self expression.
- Students will be given the opportunity to share both their ideas and creations, gaining confidence of voice and self expression.
- Students will be given permission to expand creatively in the direction of their dreams, in a supportive and encouraging environment.
I hold a 'Bachelor of Fine Arts - Majoring in Photography’ as well as a ‘Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts - Majoring in Contemporary Dance’. I have been weaving these arts forms together for many years, sharing teachings of creativity with students along the way. I created a photography business in 2005, and since then have cultivated my own way of visual storytelling with dancers, movers and other creatives.

I have taught in both Primary and High Schools in New Zealand (5-18years) and have lead NCEA Year 13 level classes in creative conception/ choreography modules. I have also taught community classes in dance, drama, choreography and storytelling since 2004.

I am a certified Sattva Yoga Teacher (200hr YTT), trained in leading Meditation, Pranayama (Breathwork), Asana, Kriya, and free movement practices. This integrated approach to Yoga stems from the Vedic Himalayan tradition. I received my certification through Sattva Academy of Yoga, which is located in the foothills of this sacred mountain range in India.

I spent 2019 living and working at 'The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies' as well as a retreat centre in Hawaii. During this time I was lucky enough to learn from some of the worlds greatest heart centred teachers and thought leaders. Omega is a global community whose aim is to 'Awaken the best in the human spirit and cultivate the extraordinary potential that exists in us all.' I feel deeply aligned with these values as both a teacher and a human on this beautiful earth.

My classes reflect this and honour a holistic approach to creativity.
- Learners are asked to experiment with creating their vision, making 3-5 photographs as a home assignment between classes 2 and 3.
- Students are requested to upload their images to the class portal at least 12 hours prior to our final meeting, so that they can be a part of the final presentation/ show and tell.
-Paper or a Notebook -Pens -A pillow for guided meditation -A camera will be required for "at home" creating. This does not need to be a DSLR - any camera including a phone will be sufficient. - Student selected objects, props, costumes etc for the creation of their images (at home).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners will not be assessed but are invited to share the images they create, for feedback from peers and teacher.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
NB - The photographs shown in this lesson include many classical and contemporary performers in dance attire. If you have any concerns around modesty as a parent - please reach out to me so that I can share more information before enrolment.
