Class Experience
Using the book, "Harold and the Purple Crayon" as inspiration, students listen to a read-aloud by the teacher and then will use paper shapes to stimulate their imaginations in an open ended art project. "Harold and the Purple Crayon" is a 1955 children's book by Crockett Johnson, it is a beloved classic in my home. My children loved reading this book over and over, and it's the perfect book to incorporate a craft art project. Children will have fun moving the shapes around to create a...
-Students will use shapes to stimulate their imaginations and create a unique image. -Students will use crayons to draw details that will complete their images. -Students will practice gluing skills.
Materials required: -Construction paper -Several types of purple paper to be cut into shapes: circles, squares, rectangles and triangles approximately 2-3 inches in size (these can be pre-cut or cut by Parent/Supervisor during the book reading). -Glue -Scissors OPTIONAL: Purple odds and ends (beads, buttons, etc.)
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
