*Begining reading skills will benefit learners In this one-time class, students will get the opportunity to co-create a story with their peers. Whether we soar up into the galaxy in our hamburger mobile, wearing formal wear, in order to save the planet, or we dive deep into the azure ocean, where whales teach us their language and we help them clean up the garbage that is hurting them. Each lesson will be unique - filled with adventure and creativity. After receiving a prompt (picture/short video/sentence), students will take turns contributing to the main storyline. Throughout the process, students might learn about story structure, parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, etc.), language features (similies, metaphors, etc.), grammar (sentence structure), and spelling. Students get the majority of the talk time during this lesson, which means they are able to practice speaking in front of a group and have an opportunity to grow their confidence when sharing their ideas. I will do my best to ensure talk time is fair between students and encourage students who are more reluctant with prompts and questions. The teacher will type the story as its being constructed in a PowerPoint document, asking for spelling suggestions and perhaps including intentional mistakes to edit out later - depending on the age and ability of the class. Other editing focuses could be on adding detail, punctuation, and flow of the story. By eliminating the act of 'writing', students who get easily frustrated with the multiple elements of story writing, get a chance to let their imagination soar, constructing a story and focusing on learning about the other elements in story creation. If you have any questions, please message me. I look forward to meeting your learner and creating magical stories together! *After the class has ended students will receive a copy of their co-created story which they can then illustrate, expand on or read. *Each one-time class of the same title will have a different story prompt/motivation so that students can sign up again and the lesson will always be different.

'Meraki' (a term used by the Greeks) is when you do something with your soul, creativity, and love. It is my mission to act with Meraki daily and to encourage learners to do the same.
Hi, my name is Olivia, but you can call me Teacher Liv, or Liv. I am passionate about teaching holistically so that students develop socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe that it is easy for students to get drawn into the magic of fairy tales or make-believe but it takes a little more effort to introduce them to the magic in the world around them. And there is so much magic in the world around us!
In my classroom, we will venture into the depths of English, learning how to go from 'story writing' to adventure telling. We will observe nature and discover the secrets behind the eyes of elephants. We will communicate complex messages and feelings without saying any words at all.
(My favourite teaching areas include: English, Science, and Visual Arts).
In my lessons, students will be encouraged to be curious, to laugh, to lead the way, to be proud of themselves and their learning, and to learn at their own pace. Most importantly, to discover the 'magic' hidden in plain sight in the world around us.
I have been an educator for the past 9 years, teaching and learning from children aged 10 months to 12 years old. I have my Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Montessori Education and in 2022 I gained my TESOL diploma.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, being out in nature, traveling, photography, and arts and crafts. So far I have lived in South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada. I love exploring new places and learning about other cultures, languages, and traditions.
