Welcome, Alphabet Detectives! Pre-reading skills are vital for a strong foundation in reading, and this class provides young learners with a warm, engaging environment to develop letter Identification and phonemic awareness. In our twice-weekly classes, we will investigate 2-3 letters per class and uncover clues to unlock letters sounds and associated words. This immersive, repetitive (but fun!) practice in phonemic awareness gives students the tools they need to build confidence and ease anxiety as they work towards literacy. After introductions and greetings, I will open the "ABC Mystery Envelope", which will give us clues about the letters we will be investigating that day. Once these letters are identified, we will learn the different sounds they make and brainstorm words that use them. No prior knowledge of letter sounds is needed for this class and it can be joined or left at anytime. Once we rotate through all of the letters of the alphabet, (5 weeks), we will return and begin again. Sample Letter Schedule: Week 1, Day 1: A, B Week 1, Day 2: C, D, E Week 2, Day 1: F, G Week 2, Day 2: H, I, J Week 3, Day 1: K, L Week 3, Day 2: M, N, O Week 4, Day 1: P, Q, R Week 4, Day 2: S, T Week 5, Day 1: U, V, W Week 5, Day 2: X, Y, Z I use a wide variety of activities (such as “Ready...Set...Listen!" and “Name that Sound!”), songs and props to keep students engaged, and they are encouraged to interact with each other to build communication skills. We will also work on fine motor skills as we build letters with our hands, arms and fingers...so much fun! These activities are designed to get our little learners in "Genius Mode!", where they are recognizing letter connections long after class has ended. My classroom is an engaging, safe-space for learners at all levels - each child will shine and feel like a rockstar!

1. Letter identification (A-Z, 2-3 letters per class)
2. Phonemic awareness (the ability to hear, identify, and practice letter sounds)
3. ABC-Connect (Finding correspondence between these sounds and the world around us)
4. Social Skills (Your child will learn patience and listening skills, as well as becoming more comfortable in the online classroom)

Your student will receive a handout they can use to practice identifying and writing letters. Corresponding images will provide them with a sound reference for each letter.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
