In this 8-week continuation of "I'm a Musician Too!", learners between the ages of 3 and 5 will continue to explore the music through keyboard geography, improvisation, games, aural skills, and basic piano technique.

Description

Class Experience

In this exciting class, learners will continue to explore the piano. They will learn to play a minimum of two simple songs through in-class instruction and videos sent after class. Each lesson will still include six of the following elements: aural, technique, rhythm, theory, improvisation, star songs, and listening in color. Here is a detailed description of the weekly activities:

Week 1:
- DO-LA warmup and Teddy Bear song
- D key flops and "Flat Hands, Round Hands" fingerplay
- Rhythm game...

Learners will recognize C-F on the white keys of the piano. Each child will review the solfege hand signs and syllables for Do, Re, Mi, Sol, and La and use them to sing simple melodies. They will know four rhythms and be able to echo and switch smoothly from one rhythm to the next. Learners will have the opportunity to perform up to two songs on the piano for their classmates and are encouraged to share their accomplishments with family and friends.

Learners are encouraged to learn to play a simple melody on the piano to demonstrate their new skills to their classmates in the final class. Each child will have access to instructional videos to help them learn to play one of these songs.

Learners will continue to use their "Star Songs" and "Carnival of the Animals" books. They will also need access to a piano or keyboard and a scarf or piece of fabric.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
