Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
+ Learners will have the opportunity to get to meet each other and connect over their common ground as Japanese students at varying levels of the IJC series.
+ Learners will get to ask questions, hear commentary, and chat about the Japanese language and culture we encounter in the anime.
+ Learners will get to work on teams to show off their knowledge of anime and Japanese language
In order to fully participate in the watch party's anime viewing (and not just the Zoom-hosted meeting), please read and follow the instructions below. While I'll be happy to post these instructions and troubleshoot with folks in the chat box in Zoom during the meeting as well, I intend to start the viewing as soon as possible after starting--so it would be best to check off all these to-do's beforehand so as not to miss anything!

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Sign up for this watch party!
2. Preview Zoro.to to understand the nature of the site on which we'll be watching the anime together.
3. Show up on time to avoid missing any part of the anime or other directions given during the meeting.
3. Direct message me at any point if you have any questions :)

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The 20-minute segments of three films we will watch together are listed below and have been selected for being more or less neutral of potentially sensitive content so that even younger participants can join us with their parents' peace of mind. That said, learners should watch as much or as little as is under the discretion of the parent. Please check special notes below for details about the particular segments of the films we'll be watching.

For more information on each of the films we will be viewing, please check out IMDB Parental Guide descriptions (below and linked):

Secondly, participants are *not* required to create an account with Zoro.to in order to join us, and doing so will in fact be discouraged to prevent peer pressure among participants. Participants who do decide to create an account anyway will be required to notify me. For the sake of privacy and security, use of the chat on the platform (or any capacity for chatting outside of the Zoom's built-in chat feature) is prohibited, and any sign of negligence will result in immediate suspension of our watching service until rectified.

Please also feel free to message me directly with any questions you have around any of the above!
We will be watching via a private live stream through an ad-free anime viewing platform at Zoro.to. Students will receive links to each watch party room (one for each film) through Zoom during our meeting. All films will be in Japanese, however, participants will have the option of turning on English subtitles if desired.

Participants are *not* required to create an account with Zoro.to in order to join us. Participants who do decide to create an account will be required to notify me and include their username for identification purposes. For the sake of privacy and security, use of the chat on the platform (or any capacity for chatting outside of the Zoom's built-in chat feature) is prohibited, and any sign of negligence will result in immediate suspension of our watching service until rectified.

Please note that I will not be able to screen-share during anime viewings as unapproved recordings of these segments are in violation of copyright and therefore prohibited.

I will however be screen-sharing during our trivia tournaments and encourage students to us the Zoom chat feature to participate.
