Each week we will sketch and paint a new work of art while exploring techniques to improve your skills based on learner-requested topics. This way they paint what they want while learning new skills.
Class experience
Do you know what underpainting is? What about scumbling or dry brushing? Join us to learn these and many other painting skills! We utilize unique techniques throughout each class, depending on what the subject matter calls for. Creating a base coat, layering, blending, dabbing, and detailing are the most common in most paintings. Painting Surface (this can vary with what supplies you have at home): Stretched canvas, canvas board, cardboard, thick paper, recycled materials like the inside of a cereal box, etc. Recommended sizes are 8" X 10", 9" X 12", or 11" X 14" Pencil Eraser Acrylic Paint Brushes - a variety of sizes (If you don’t have fine detail brushes, toothpicks can be helpful) Water Cup Paper Towel Palette - this can be a paper plate, a sheet of wax paper, or an old magazine For easy cleanup, a placemat and apron or paint shirt are encouraged *Techniques demonstrated in this class will utilize layering and brushwork that works best with opaque paints like acrylic or tempera. If you prefer your child to use watercolor paints I also offer an ongoing watercolor class in which very different techniques are taught.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
