Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Learners will learn clay techniques and terms as they are working with their hands and tools to create 3-dimensional works of art.

We will compare and contrast form and function as they decide if they will be creating a decorative sculpture or a functional vessel.

Learners will make decisions about surface decoration while they build and after it has gone through the drying phase.
Our teachers have been teaching this and similar projects for many years. We all create clay artwork ourselves. Air-dry clay acts in a very similar manner.
Students may have some items that they wish to paint at the end of the camp that will still need drying time. How to add surface decoration will be covered and should be doable on one of the first pieces made at the beginning of the week by Friday, therefore, they will have the knowledge to finish the rest of their artwork on their own as drying time allows for it.
Monday - Thursday: Air-Dry Clay (I recommend Crayola or Amaco) Clay Tools: Rolling Pin or some other cylinder that is round and smooth such as a can plastic cup Plastic Knife Toothpicks Q-tips Small Cup of Water Placemat Rag or paper towel to wipe hands and for easy cleanup Friday: Acrylic Paint Brushes - variety of sizes Cup of Water Paper Towel Placemat
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Guidance will be provided through each step of all of the projects.
4 hours 35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
