I believe children learn to play an instrument if they enjoy it and part of that is being able to play a recognisable song. In this beginner 1 series of lessons students will learn the notes required to play well known songs. The emphasis in the beginner classes is on learning the song, it is not necessary to be able to read music although this is an advantage. If your learner would like to read music why not check out my new learning system 'Steps on the road to recorder brilliance' It is recommended that learners have attended at least one class at levels 1 - 3 in the Play That Tune series before attempting this class or be confident in playing notes B A G and a few simple tunes such as Hot Cross Buns, Rain rain go away. For learners who have completed 'step 4 on the road to recorder brilliance' this class gives them the opportunity to further practice using the notes and another song for their repertoire. We will begin with introductions to each other and today's song; If you're happy and you know it!. We will sing the song together, checking understanding and discussing the words. The students will follow the instruction of the teacher and a colourful on screen presentation to learn how to play the notes required for today's song. As we learn each note we will practice blowing techniques and begin to hear the tune grow. Every learner will be heard individually and as a group, so the teacher can be sure that all learners have understood and can complete the tasks. As the tune builds we will clap the rhythm and learn about the note lengths. For some learners they will be learning new notes. For others who have completed 'Step 4 on the road to recorder brilliance' this class is an opportunity to practice what they have learned and add another song to their repertoire. Please note: playing an instrument can take time and practice. This class will teach the techniques and notes required for the tune. Some learners will have a natural ability, however for most it will take practice after class.
Learning Goals
Learners will have been shown the techniques to be able to play the tune, however it may take more practice after class to perfect these techniques.
This class does not teach how to read music, these classes are aimed at giving children an introduction to their recorder and an instantly accessible way to play tunes. If you would like to learn to read music, join my classes 'Steps on the road to recorder brilliance'.
