Do you wish you knew what to do to be more successful? Want to know how to increase your chances that you’ll get that job you want? Or how to increase the likelihood that you will catch that certain somebody’s eye? Or how to figure out how to talk Mom into letting you get a dog? Maybe you just want to be happier and feel more successful in general. This is a good class for you, no matter what your goals are. Self-Efficacy is the set of beliefs a person has about how successful they will be...
Students will learn what self-efficacy is and how it impacts them. Students will learn scientifically-proven ways to increase their self-efficacy. Students will engage in collaborative discussion. Students will create a concrete plan to increase their self-efficacy for at least one endeavor in their own lives.
I have conducted and published research on the self-efficacy of learners, and I train adults on how to raise their self-efficacy for specific things like dealing with trauma, overcoming negative self-talk, and increasing general well-being. This topic of self-efficacy thrills me to no end. It empowers people to learn that they can control how successful they will be with any endeavor. Understanding self-efficacy is a true game-changer.
There is no homework other than to look for ways these self-efficacy improving actions can be tested in students’ own lives. If students do find opportunities to “test” these practices for effectiveness, I encourage them to do so, but some students may not have the opportunity to do so in the time between our two class meetings.
No supplies other than note-taking materials are necessary.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
