In this readers' and writers' workshop, we will read and appreciate the poem "If I were in charge of the world" by Judith Viorst. Then we will each try our hand at writing our own poem imagining an alternate reality born of our imaginations. My teaching style is organized but casual, with a lot of interaction. I will explain and model skills, then have learners work on their own and workshop their products. They will do this by sharing their writing ideas and respectfully appreciating one another's work. The only tools necessary are pen, paper, and brain.
Learning Goals
Students will practice poetry appreciation and creative writing skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love exploring literature, writing, history, and cultural studies with my learners. I have taught Humanities courses for 20 years at an independent school. I have my bachelor's degree in French and English, and my master's degree in English, with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition. I am a very learner-centered teacher, so I focus on student inquiry and discussion. I love to conduct workshop-style lessons where everyone pitches in and builds knowledge together. Fun Fact: I am super fond of hiking and spending time in the outdoors.
