Students will learn best if they are actively involved asking and answering questions throughout the class. This will include them listening, observing, discussing, and interacting with the teacher. Class will begin with introductions, learning goals, key vocabulary, direct instruction about horse behavior and communication leading to questions and answers with "eyes-on" student learning/discussion while observing several horses live during the class session. Topics covered will include the horse's use of body language, verbal and non-verbal communication, and various habits that horses might exhibit to communicate with us and other horses.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the different ways horses use body language (ears, eyes, mouth, neck, tail, legs, and hooves), and verbal and non-verbal communication of behaviors (sounds, posturing, and repeated habits) to communicate with us and other horses.

I am huge believer in the power of communication and I love horses. So, this class is a great opportunity to combine both things. I also recently presented at the 2020 American Youth Horse Council Symposium on this topic. My life-long experiences with horses has led me to research and study horse behavior. Learning how horses communicate opens up huge opportunities for us to understand them. As a speaker and educator, I continue to learn more about effective communication and relationships (both horse and human).
