Class Experience

Was that football commercial funny? Sad? How did it make you feel? What do you think da Vinci was trying to say through his Mona Lisa? Let's do some critical thinking and learn how persuasion affects the meaning of commercials and art.

Rhetorical thinking is the act to discover the meaning behind something and how the author uses persuasion to get his or her audience to feel and think a certain way.

In this class, students ages 10-15, will be shown a commercial or artwork and will be asked to analyze it through their senses, emotions, feelings, and thoughts. As a group, we will talk about what each person sees and thinks and discuss what we believe the meaning of the commercial or artwork is. Since this is a one-time class, each class will have a different commercial or artwork that will be discussed. This class may help students become empathetic toward others.

This class is perfect for students who are interested in deep thinking, need extra critical thinking practice, or just want to watch commercials and check out some artwork.
