Syllabus: Intermediate Introduction to IEW Writing with Aesop's Fables
Course Description: This course is designed as a continuation of Elementary Introduction to IEW Writing with Aesop's Fables. Using Aesop's fables and additional materials, students will build on their writing skills by learning to outline, write from outlines, create story sequence charts, and use pictures to inspire their own stories. The course will introduce various dress-ups, decorations, and sentence openers to enhance writing. This is an excellent preparation for the IEW course "All Things Fun and Fascinating."

Materials Needed:
•	Printed copies of Aesop's Fables from Parenting by Example
•	3-ring binder
•	File folders

Weekly Structure:
•	Discussion: Each week, we will discuss the fable or picture to understand the context and characters.
•	IEW Techniques: Introduction, explanation, and demonstration of IEW techniques and assignments.
•	Assignments: Writing tasks posted each week in Google Classroom, due one week later.
•	Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, and Decorations: New elements introduced weekly to enhance writing.
•	Checklists: Provided for each assignment to ensure students stay on task.
•	Resubmissions: Allowed for corrections.

Unit 3: Story Sequence Charts
Week 1:
•	Lesson: Story Sequence Chart, The Astrologer
o	Assignment: Write the 1st paragraph
Week 2:
•	Lesson: Continue Story Sequence Chart, The Astrologer
o	Assignment: Write the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, including conversation
Week 3:
•	Lesson: Story Sequence Chart, The Farmer and His Sons
o	Assignment: Write 3 paragraphs
Week 4:
•	Lesson: Story Sequence Chart, The Bat and the Weasels
o	Assignment: Write 3 paragraphs
Week 5:
•	Lesson: Borrowing a Conflict
o	Assignment: Create an original story (3 paragraphs)
Unit 5: Writing from Pictures
Week 6:
•	Lesson: Writing from Pictures, The  Mouse and the Lion
o	Assignment: Write 3 paragraphs
Week 7:
•	Lesson: Writing from Pictures, The Tortoise and the Hare
o	Assignment: Write 3 paragraphs
Week 8:
•	Lesson: Writing from Pictures, The Little Red Hen 
o	Assignment: Write 3 paragraphs

Homework:
•	Assignments will be posted each week in Google Classroom and are due one week after they are assigned. Resubmissions are allowed for corrections.

Additional Notes:
•	Source texts, note posters, and other helpful materials will be provided. 
•	Active participation in discussions is best for the success of the course.
