IEW Writing Lessons: All Things Fun and Fascinating (2x/Week) Part 1

In this 12-week beginning writing class, students will learn to write with structure and style using the IEW methods.

Class Experience

In this class students will:
-Practice making keyword outlines and narrating a story using their outlines
-Practice retelling a story in their own words using their outlines
-Practice creating a title for their story as well as a final clincher
-Practice using strong verbs, quality adjectives, and -ly adverbs
-Practice using alliteration
-Practice decorating their sentences with who-which clauses
-Practice using similes and hyperbole
-Practice writing a 3 paragraph report
I am an accredited Institute for Excellence in Writing instructor. 
Students will be assigned homework to complete after each class. Students will be writing paragraphs each week and completing outlines. At times students will have opportunities to present their stories to the class. This class will meet 2x each week and students are expected to complete their homework in between meeting days.  *If a student needs extra time to complete an assignment just let me know.
Students will need the student book for IEW All Things Fun and Fascinating Students will need to be able to take a picture of their homework and turn it in. A scanning app such as TurboScan is very helpful for this. We will complete Units I-IV in this section. This book will also be used for section 2.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
There are no letter grades given for this class.  Learners will turn in their homework and I will provide feedback to them. Learner progress is assessed through the completion of assignments and participation in class. Students will earn points for each assignment.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students may need help turning in their assignments. Learners will turn their assignments in using Google Classroom or by taking a picture of their written work.
