US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
In this dynamic course, students will embark on a journey through the essential elements of writing using the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) methodology. Guided by a fun and upbeat teacher, this class seamlessly integrates note-taking, outlining, and writing skills, providing a comprehensive foundation for effective composition. Students will begin by mastering note taking and outlining, the cornerstone of all IEW writing units. Through the "I do, we do, you do" teaching methodology, I will introduce new material, model it for the students, and work on reinforcement activities together. Students will learn how to create outlines from single paragraphs, providing the scaffolding for the IEW methodology. Next students will delve into the process of writing from notes. Just as a blueprint provides a plan for a structure, IEW teaches students how to plan before they write. Through engaging activities and encouragement, students will refine their note-taking and outlining abilities, ensuring they have a solid foundation for effective writing. Students will have the opportunity to share written work with the class and receive positive growth focused feedback.
Learning Goals
By the end of this 4 Session Class students will have written 4 papers/paragraphs. They will understand out to make an outline, verbally retell the information and write it into a paragraph. They will have learned how to format a paper, create an interesting title and 3-5 "dress - up" techniques.
