Week 1Lesson 1Bayou Trees - Introduction to Keyword Outlining and Writing BasicsIntroduction to the foundational elements of Keyword Outline from a text Sample Keyword Outline demonstration Practice verbally summarizing paragraphs. Techniques for crafting catchy and engaging titles. Optional assignment: Write a paragraph (8-10 sentences) applying the outlined technique.Week 2Lesson 2Wolverine Frogs - Refining Keyword Outlining and Enhancing Writing StyleReview of Keyword Outlining technique. Sample Keyword Outline activity. Introduce -ly adverbs as dress-ups and sentence openers. Review Techniques for crafting catchy and engaging titles. Understanding the structure of a proper paper including headers, titles, and indenting. Assignment: Complete the outline and paragraph based on the session's activity. By the end of this 4 Session Class students will have written 4 papers/paragraphs. They will understand out to make an outline, verbally retell the information and write it into a paragraph. They will have learned how to format a paper, create an interesting title and 3-5 "dress - up" techniques.
I'm a dedicated educator with over a decade of experience teaching IEW. My passion is to make writing engaging and enjoyable for my students, and I strive to bring creativity and interactivity to every lesson. As a parent of three children, I've had the opportunity to use the IEW program at home and have walked my own kids through the program. This personal experience has given me a unique perspective and deep understanding of the challenges that students and families may face in the writing process. In my classes, I aim to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment that encourages students to take risks and develop their own unique voices as writers. I believe that with the right guidance and support, every student has the potential to become a skilled and confident writer. Whether in the classroom or at home, I'm dedicated to making writing a positive and rewarding experience for all students, and I'm excited to share my knowledge and passion with you.
Homework Offered
We will work and get as much done in class as possible. I will provide a packet each week that should be printed off to help students work through the essay writing process.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students are welcome to turn in thier papers. These should be papers that have been edited by an adult for basic grammar spelling and punctuation. I will provide encouraging feedback based on the IEW rubric and checklist.Grades Offered
If you have an older struggling writer this is an excellent class to show them a step by step method for success.
There are no prequequisite writing classes needed to take this class. We start right at the beginning. Students should be able to read at a 2nd-grade level.
Submitting assignments is optional. If a student desires to submit papers they will need the following. Ability to submit papers via Google Docs. Handwritten papers can be scanned or photographed and uploaded into OS. When student submit papers they must include their KWO and IEW checklist. Before class print the lesson packets provided and bring a writing utensil to class.

We will be writing about Animals in North America. All content is age-appropriate and hopefully below reading level so the focus can be on writing not difficult content.
Please print out packets provided for Lessons 1-3, For lesson 4 students will need to select their own source for the internet, book or magazine.
