IEW Jr. High Year 1 LB & Fix It! Grammar (Spring) Essay, Writing, Homeschool

In this twelve-week continuation class, students will work with the IEW Writing program. This class will work on Units 6, 7, 8, & 9. Let’s continue improving those writing skills. Working with Fix It! Grammar: Level 3 will continue.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be required to complete unfinished class assignments for homework. Multiple stories will be read, outlined, and rewritten with stylistic techniques. The final assignment must be typed double spaced time New Roman #12 font. Amount of time spent writing and rewriting a story will depend on the student. However, I estimate 1-2 hours a week working on a composition. Assignments are to be emailed to the teacher 2 days before class by 5pm CST. Daily homework lessons of Fix It! Grammar - Robin Hood Student Book Level 3 will be completed.
Assessment
Assessment of students assignments will consist of randomly selected compositions which will be reviewed by the teacher. The IEW composition checklist and/or six trait assessment for compositions will be utilized to evaluate student selected compositions. Letter grades will be provided for compositions selected for evaluation. ** If parents would like an end of semester grade, please state so in a private email to the teacher. Grades will be provided for each semester per parent request. *There will be no assessments for the Fix It! Grammar: Level 3 Robin Hood lessons.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 8
This class is a continuation of IEW Jr. High Year 1 Level B (Fall semester) Essay, Writing, English – Homeschool Friendly.  If the required class has not been taken the student will be UNENROLLED.

The teacher will discuss IEW units 6-9 and students will apply concepts to their compositions.

Spring Semester
Unit 6 Summarizing Multiple References 
•	Students will learn Unit 6 Summarizing Multiple References structural model
•	 Students will learn to identify various topics related to one subject
•	Students will learn to write source outlines about a single topic from multiple references 
•	Students will learn to write a fuse outline from multiple outlines 
•	Students will create a report from the fuse outline 
•	Students will apply stylistic techniques learned to assignments

Unit 7 Inventive Writing
•	Students will learn the importance of asking questions
•	Students will learn the parts of the introduction and concluding paragraphs
•	Students will learn to write a KWO for three body paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion
•	Students will learn to write a 5-paragraph composition from the KWO

Unit 8 Formal Essay Model 
•	Students will review the Unit 8 Formal Essay structural model
•	Students will write a 5 or 7-paragraph essay

Unit 9 Formal Critique 
•	Students will learn the format of a Formal Critique structural model
•	Students will learn vocabulary which works well in a formal critique
•	Students will learn to use the Unit 3 Story Sequence Chart to write the body paragraph(s)
•	Students will learn the components of an introduction and conclusion paragraph used in formal critiques
•	Students will write a formal critique

Note: All final assignments must be typed doubled spaced, Times New Roman #12 font. Assignments must be emailed to the teacher 2 days before class. Assignments will have due dates. Late assignments will NOT be evaluated.

Note 2: The Spring semester is for students who have completed the Fall semester units. Exception may be made if the student has had prior experience with IEW curriculum. The student writing sample will have to be reviewed by the teacher.

Note 3: Each semester is a separate enrollment and cost.
