1-2 hours per week. Students will be required to complete unfinished class assignments for homework. Multiple stories will be read, outlined, and rewritten with stylistic techniques. The final assignment must be typed double spaced time New Roman #12 font. Amount of time spent writing and rewriting a story will depend on the student. However, I estimate 1-2 hours a week working on a composition. Assignments are to be emailed to the teacher 2 days before class by 5pm CST.Assessment
Assessment of students assignments will consist of randomly selected compositions which will be reviewed by the teacher. The IEW composition checklist and/or six trait assessment for compositions will be utilized to evaluate student selected compositions. Letter grades will be provided for compositions selected for evaluation.Letter Grade
** If the parents of high school students would like an end of semester grade, please state so in a private email to the teacher. Grades will be provided for each semester per parent request.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner Level
This is the second semester of a yearlong class. The teacher will discuss IEW units 7-9 and students will apply concepts to their compositions. Spring Semester Unit 7 Inventive Writing • Students will learn the importance of asking questions • Students will learn the parts of the introduction and concluding paragraphs • Students will learn to write a KWO for three body paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion • Students will learn to write a 5-paragraph composition from the KWO Unit 8 Formal Essay Model • Students will review the Unit 8 Formal Essay structural model • Students will write a 6 - 12 paragraph essay Unit 9 Formal Critique • Students will learn the format of a Formal Critique structural model • Students will learn vocabulary which works well in a formal critique • Students will learn to use the Unit 3 Story Sequence Chart to write the body paragraph(s) • Students will learn the components of an introduction and conclusion paragraph used in formal critiques • Students will write a formal critique Response to Literature • Write a 5-paragraph Response to Literature Note: All final assignments must be typed doubled spaced, Times New Roman #12 font. Assignments must be emailed to the teacher 2 days before class. Assignments will have due dates. Late assignments will NOT be evaluated. Note 2: The Spring semester is for students who have completed the Fall semester units. Exception may be made if the student has had prior experience with IEW curriculum. The student writing sample will have to be reviewed by the teacher. Note 3: Each semester is a separate enrollment and cost.

Pre-Requisites
Students must have been previously enrolled in IEW High School Course Year 1 Fall Semester. Or, has completed IEW Level B Year 1 per teacher approval.
