Ready to tackle Part 5 of "The Nose Tree"? Editing and proofreading are hard no matter what age you are. Fortunately, the Institute for Excellence in Writing, also known as IEW, created an easy-to-use and understand curriculum to help you understand grammar in a fun and exciting way. Using the flipped classroom model, you will work individually during the week (Monday – Thursday) following the assigned homework and then we will gather together as a group to discuss what was learned and what needs additional attention. Students will be introduced to multiple grammar skills for editing as well as new vocabulary and self-correction. How does this work? In class, we will explore a new grammar concept. You will take that knowledge and apply it at home by finding and fixing errors in the passages for each day’s assignment (four per week). At the end of the week, we will meet in the classroom to discuss the errors, make necessary changes, and review the grammar for the week. Each textbook includes an entire year (33 weeks) of editing practice, however, this course is broken into multiple parts. Part 5: Week 1: Review editing for this week’s assignment + week 21 work assigned Week 2: Review editing for this week’s assignment + week 22 work assigned Week 3: Review editing for this week’s assignment + week 23 work assigned Week 4: Review editing for this week’s assignment + week 24 work assigned Week 5: Review editing for this week’s assignment + week 25 work assigned + Kahoot! ** The weeks listed above for assigned homework align with the weeks in the textbook.** I am a registered IEW instructor (see Teacher's Expertise below) and, outside of the classroom, I love this material so much that I use it in my own home. Parents: Please note that Fix It! Grammar is not a graded course. Students learn through progression and repetition with this curriculum. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Learning Goals
In part five, Outschoolers will learn 16 new vocabulary words, the parts of speech, homophones, and punctuation skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from University of Tennessee - Knoxville
As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: https://iew.com/events-classes/instructors/find-accredited-instructor/330449) I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.
I am also a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have a BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children.
