Class Experience

During the final fifteen weeks (semester two), learners will cover IEW Units 5-9. These include:
* Learning how to take notes.
* Learning how to create outlines.

* Retelling narrative stories.

Learners will also:
* Increase their vocabulary with new words presented weekly.
* Learn how to structure their writing.
* Get an opportunity to practice writing daily.
As a lifelong learner, I too am always striving for growth. After years of using the IEW curriculum, I decided I wanted to share what I had learned with others and became a registered instructor with IEW. (Link for verification: I have also been a tutor (teacher) for a local classical co-op, studied through literature seminars, and attended practicums to enhance my own reading and writing knowledge.
I am also a certified TESOL/TEFL/EYL teacher, professional writer, beta reader, proofreader, editor, and homeschool mom. I have a love for the English language (I have the BA in English to prove it), the smell of new books, and transferring ideas from mind to paper. My goal is to promote a love of learning while offering a safe and fun environment. I truly have a passion for reading and writing and would love to share my knowledge and experience with your children.
Lessons will be assigned in class each week dependant upon what we cover in class and what is remaining.

Learners are assessed each week in class based upon their contribution to conversations. They will also be assessed through homework submissions each week. Please email me ahead of time if you would like your learner to be graded.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
IEW is a wonderful writing program but, especially in the beginning, is best for those who have writing support at home. While the content is not the most important part of the program, being able to follow the directions and guidance supplied in class and in the workbooks is.

This class uses Kahoot and Gimkit for gameplay as well as Google Suite tools such as Docs, Forms, and Slides. For gameplay, an account is not needed as learners will be given a code to play directly with the educator. Google Suite tools may require an email address, however, this information is not collected by the educator and meets Outschool's COPPA compliance requirements.
We will be using the same workbook as was used in semester one. IEW Ancient-Based Writing Lessons - Please note that the student edition is required for this course.
