I truly believe learning can be a lot of fun. Some learners are intimidated by expressing themselves through written language, others struggle to find their voice in oral presentations. I have found that finding a funny, slightly quirky way to expand on thoughts levels the field and can make further self-expression flow more naturally. I have designed this class to introduce or re-introduce learners to common idioms in the American English Language. I will keep learners engaged by using a variety of formats to spark conversation. Sometimes they may act out the literal vs figurative idiom, we might sketch or make a word cloud together online to explore the nuances of their meanings. I have a reference library of art/images, famous works of writing, and video clips to demonstrate meaning and context. We will explore how idioms add to the texture and creativity of written and spoken language. As is natural with our session flow, I will demonstrate how the use of an idiom vs literal language changes the tone of writing or speaking. Finally, just for fun, I will share with our learners the historical origin of these idioms. These little known references will make for great conversation and assist in our learners remembering the meaning of each idiom. This will be so dynamic and entertaining, they will forget to be nervous about how they express themselves! (this is a one-time version of an on-going session I offer)

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm Kristina...wife, mom of three boys and constant learner. I was a 2nd grade ESL teacher back in the day. I earned my graduate degree in education, yet have found I learn the most by remaining curious. I am a girly, girl at heart but have learned, in part from my sons, to be comfortable getting messy for the sake of learning (and just for fun)! I value the relationships in my life, accessibility of educational opportunities, travel, and exploring a variety of ways toward personal growth.

A few of my core educational beliefs:
Everyone has strengths.
There are never too many questions.
We all don't have to learn the same way.
Curiosity can (and should) be a spark.
Try it. Test it. Challenge it.
In a safe space, take risks.
No one can be a better you than you.
Be open. Be kind.
Have fun.
I am committed to being the best human being I can. My classes don't have a religious aspect, they are created to allow each student to gain greater self-awareness. With such awareness, students will be able to apply what they learn toward living their best life, whatever that means for them/your family. I am looking forward to sharing my interests and knowledge with you/your child(ren).
