Class Experience

Who gets angry? (Hint, if you're human, raise your hand!) We all do! Anger is a natural response to problems. In fact, we might even compare it to an adaptation! In the plant and animal worlds, they have certain adaptations/defenses that protect them from problems. We do as well, and we will be exploring them in this class. This class is perfect for those who are ready to learn the basics of relaxation in a fun, interactive way. No prior knowledge is needed, just a desire to relax!

In this class, students will first learn about what anger is and the purpose of anger. They will then discuss certain animals and the defense mechanisms that they use for protection (e.g., turtles and their shells, squids and their ink). Students will then learn coping strategies to deal with anger that correspond to each animal's defense mechanisms. They will then be led in an animal themed guided relaxation exercise.

My teaching style is highly interactive! I teach through a combination of live lectures and discussion. I frequently ask questions and allow students to also ask questions, while also being mindful of those who are hesitant to participate. I want my students to feel valued and engaged! I love to encourage participation, and I think that students can learn so much from their peers. I believe that collaborative learning is such a great tool! Additionally, I have learned a great deal from my students, and highly value their input and ideas. I also frequently provide time for discussion.

*Please note that this class is not intended to provide therapy, and sensitive topics will be avoided.*
