In this one time session, learners will review mappings, coordinates, tables and graphs to identify functions. We will work closely with relationships and discuss what characteristics let us know whether it is a function or not. (8th grade)

Class Experience

Lesson will start of with introductions/ice breakers.

Students will review different representations from a google slide that I will screen share. Representations include: tables, coordinates, mapping diagrams, and graphs.We will discuss strategies such as the Vertical Line Test, identifying x-value from a set of coordinates and mapping to help us prepare for the maze activity. After reviewing some problems together, we will start on a 'Function or Not' maze activity that is optional to print (displayed on screen). Maze will include similar examples that were discussed with the different representations. Time will be given for responses and then decide which directions to move on the maze onto the next problem. After we have completed the maze, we will finish the class with an exit ticket and clarify and questions/concerns.

Background: I have a teaching and learning degree in mathematics 4-8 as well middle school teaching experience.
Teaching Philosophy: Education in modern society is not just learning from books. It is not one size fits all. It is an essential role that equips a child with knowledge and skills. Every child has the ability to learn, teaching different strategies that meets their needs and supporting along that way is what makes me an educator.
