Hello! This class can be an invaluable resource to you. So many people and influences in the world today would have us focus on what we are NOT. I want to help you realize what you already ARE. We are all born with inherent talents and abilities that, if channeled properly, can lead to immense success and happiness. This class is based on the best-selling book, "Strengthsfinder 2.0" written by Tom Rath. After years of scientific research, this team narrowed down 34 of the most common talents that they found in people. You will take a unique online assessment that will narrow down your top 5 strengths. The assessment costs $19.99 to take (in addition to the listed class price). I will explain during the class how and where to purchase the assessment. We will follow a pattern of NAMING your strengths, CLAIMING them as your own, and AIMING them in productive ways to be successful in your life. One of my strengths is called "Developer." I can recognize and see the potential in others and gain satisfaction from watching them progress. I am invested in you and hope that you can be, too! I'm so excited to take this journey with you!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Class 1 ("Name It"): We will get to know each other, have a brief introduction to positive psychology, and delve into figuring out what you do well with questions and in-class activities. I will introduce the Strengths finder assessment and give directions as to how to take it. Homework: Take the Strengths finder Assessment and read specified reports. Class 2 ("Name It" continued): We will have time for each student to share their top strengths with the class. I will describe the 34 strengths in a brief overview and share resources with you to use if you want to look into them more after class. The difference between a talent and a strength will be discussed. Homework: Ask 3-5 people who know you well to write the strengths that they see in you. Class 3 ("Claim It"): We will share the things that our loved ones wrote about us and have a discussion about accepting strengths as ours/having confidence in our unique abilities. In-class activities will be used to help students connect with their strengths and recognize times when they have used them in the past. You will write an "I am" paragraph describing your strengths and abilities. Homework: Make an "I am" board Class 4 ("Aim It"): We will share our "I am" boards, discuss how to deal with blind spots and weaknesses, and talk about the importance of investing time and energy into developing your strengths. In-class activities will be used to set short-term and long-term goals for your life.
Learning Goals
You will learn and connect with your top 5 strengths. You will understand how these strengths are powerful tools in every area of your life.
