Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
It can be hard to talk to someone you don't know... but as we go through life there will often be times when you will need to meet and continue a conversation with someone new.

In this fun class we explore ways to START and SUSTAIN a conversation.

After a quick vocal and mouth warm-up, which learners can take away and use themselves in the future, we'll break the ice further with some fun (but very useful- as Mrs. T will explain) tongue twisters, so we'll be all warmed up and ready to have a chat.

For most people their biggest challenges for public speaking are not knowing what to say, worrying about saying the wrong thing, or sounding silly. Those worries and challenges are immediately removed in this class by starting with questions where there are no wrong answers, and in fact silly answers are even encouraged. With everyone giving some fun made-up definitions for some nonsense words. They might like to even come up with their own careful pronunciation of how to say it too, and correct Mrs. T's obvious mispronunciation!!

Mrs. T will then select interesting random conversation questions from her hat and gently encourage learners to contribute to a conversation. Simple things like what would your superhero power be? would you rather? who would you like to have lunch with? or things like what hobbies do you like to enjoy etc. The atmosphere will be relaxed and supportive, with the idea to engage every learner during the class. This class is also deliberately capped at 6 so every learner gets a chance to speak in a non-intimidating atmosphere.

Mrs. T will help keep conversations going with suggestions of questions (as well as teach learners how to do this themselves).

As an experienced drama teacher, actress, director, and presenter (live, TV, radio, online, and video) Mrs. T knows lots of ways to help and encourage learners. As a child who herself struggled to find the confidence to join in conversations, she also completely understands learners' battles too, and can even pass on some little tips she's learned and still uses.

This class is great for learners who want to gain confidence for speaking up in class, develop their communication and/or social skills, or simply try out their talking skills in a supportive, understanding environment.

PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK THIS CLASS AS A 1:1 VERSION (one-time, multi-day, or ongoing), FOR LEARNERS WHO WOULD LIKE THAT EXTRA LEVEL OF SUPPORT.

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama (and some Music, PSHCE, and English) to 11 to 15 years olds and Performing Arts to 16 to 18 year olds in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time, including running small group and 1:1 confidence building workshops. I also have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like create a play in a week) and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16.

As a professional actress, I've performed for children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties,  nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.
