Welcome to "Ice, Ice, Baby! An Introduction to Glaciers and Glacial Features". In this class, students will be introduced to the topic of glaciers by generally covering the most important introductory information about glaciers. Students will learn the definition of a glacier, where in the world glaciers are found, how they are formed and how they move, and many erosional and depositional features created by glaciers. We will also discuss as a class the impact of climate change on glaciers, and how this in turn affects us as humans. The information in this class will be learned through a combination of lecture-style slides and class discussions, along with a short video clips. New information, vocabulary, and photos will be presented in slides, and as a class we will answer questions and have discussions together! All students are provided a handout to document their learning throughout the class. They will also be provided with web access to the slides -- no need to worry about writing down all the new information! No prior knowledge is needed. This is Lesson 7 of the Let's Explore Earth series, a group of lessons designed to introduce students to various areas of study in the field of Geosciences.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to explain what a glacier is, and some important details such as where they are how they move. Students will be able to identify some glacial landscape features in diagrams and photographs. Students will also gain the ability to think critically about climate change, glaciers, and humans are interconnected.

Hello everyone! My name is Annette and I'm a teacher originally from Toronto, Canada, but currently located in Nicaragua.
I have both passion AND experience teaching a wide variety of science topics. I developed an intense interest in geological and biological sciences from a very young age, and earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours Biology) and a Bachelor of Education, both from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I have two years' in-school experience teaching Geography, Biology, and General Science for grades 7-13 in Canada and England, and three years of experience teaching English as a Foreign Language online. I’ve been teaching classes in my subject areas here on Outschool for four years. However, I've been working with children in a variety of other settings for over 13 years! Here on Outschool, I offer a range of science classes and courses for approximately 10-16 year olds. I am also queer and I'm VERY passionate about providing a safe, inclusive, and welcoming class environment for all of my students. My classroom is a place for all who need a safe space to learn.
