Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this ongoing course, we will practice our reading comprehension skills by reading non fiction passages. Approximately 24 hours before our scheduled class time, a non fiction passage and worksheet will be posted in the classroom for learners to DOWNLOAD and PRINT. Please bring these sheets to class. We will read the passage together, find the important details in the article, answer questions and write a short paragraph about what we read. Learners should already be able to read paragraphs independently for this class. While phonics will not be taught, we will briefly go over any unfamiliar or difficult words as needed. This class is intended for 3rd or 4th graders reading at or above grade level, and 5th or 6th graders who would like extra practice understanding non fiction writing at lower grade levels.

*Please note that the reading passages used rotate every school year. For example, reading passages used in the fall of 2023 will be used again in fall 2024 roughly in the same order. If your learner has enrolled in this class the prior school year, they may have already read the passage.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to show that they understand the content of the passages read.
