The students will need the books for this class. Each student will take turns reading out loud in class. More "I Survived" books will be added to the list after the class has begun. You will have to re-enroll when each book is completed.
1.  "I Survived The California WIldfires, 2018" by Lauren Tarshis Starting the week of March 16-April 13

As a former media coordinator-librarian, the "I Survived Series" books written by Lauren Tarshis, were in all our media centers and can be found in public libraries. These books were checked out by hundreds of my students from grades first-fifth grade. I had to order 2- copies of every title as they were the most popular series we had in the media center.
Parents will have to make the decision if these books are a fit for their children to read. Many children have no problem with the details in these books as they are much less graphic than what children see on television and the news if they watch and are exposed to this media.

Details for this book I am including: 
Pages 1-3 Talk about the fires in the forests around them and glowing embers falling on them.
Pages 48-54 Firefighters were sharing the story of one of the fires they had survived. 
Page 72 They start to see evidence of the fire.
Page 77-101 The fire in the forest and their rescue in the helicopter.
