Description

Class Experience

In this four week book club, students will have the chance to learn more of the history behind 4 I Survived books, and they will be able to discuss their thoughts with their peers throughout the course. This class will rely heavily on discussion for students to engage with each other and show their understanding of the material. I will be using a teacher created presentation with pictures and videos to help students have the better grasp of the events surrounding each of these I Survived...

As a teacher with a bachelor's in Elementary Education, I am prepared to handle discussion about these events as well as provide additional historical information surrounding the events.

I Survived: Shark Attacks 1916 by Lauren Tarshis
I Survived: The Great Molasses Flood 1919 by Lauren Tarshis
I Survived: The California Wildfires 2018 by Lauran Tarshis

30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

Each of these books describe various historic events that shows damage and death/injury. It's important for guardians to judge their students' maturity and ability to handle reading/ learning about these events. Lauren Tarshis does a great job writing about these events in an age appropriate manner combining proper history with reserve to help students understand these events.
