This course starts with a reading of a children's book about Ice Cream, sprinkled with trivia facts pertaining to the subject. Students will then be walked through each step of making their own ice cream from scratch. With parental permission, they will be encouraged to be as creative as possible when choosing flavors. I look forward to all of those innovative recipes. The objective of this lesson is to provide students with an interdisciplinary experience, combining science and literacy....
How to make ice cream
Materials you will need: 1 Quart size zipper bag (or any small sized food bag that properly seals) 1 Gallon size zipper bag (or any larger sized food bag that properly seals) 1 measuring cup 1 cup of heavy whipping cream 2 tbsp. granulated sugar (more or less) 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract 4 cups of ice 1/3 cup table/rock/kosher salt (any salt will work!) Toppings of your choice (Let's be creative but stay safe. Parents must review and approve ingredient list prior to class.)
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This is a very low risk edible activity. However, to ensure the safety of each child, please review and approve all ingredients prior to the start of class. For the sake of time, it may also be a very good ideal to have material prepped and readily available prior to the start of class. Some parental involvement/supervision may be required.
