Class Experience

Join me on this narrative writing express!  Let's travel to worlds where stories come alive as we journey on this four part narrative writing course. This course is for young budding authors who are looking for a supportive and free space to develop their narrative writing skills.  In the course, learners will use their natural ability to tell stories to write a short narrative.  Each session will help learners develop their writing into a final draft. 
Session 1- Elements of a Narrative
In this session, we will define narrative and discuss the elements of a narrative. Students will recount two or more story elements like, appropriately sequenced events, details, and using transitional words.  

Session 2- Setting Development
In this session, we will practice developing the setting of their narrative.  We will define the setting of a story and identify and develop the settings in their stories.  In addition, we will use our 5 senses to explore the setting.  Learners will describe details of their setting using the 5 senses.

Session 3- Character Development
In this session, we will work on creating and developing our character(s).  Learners  will complete character profiles that provide details that describe what the character does, says, how they act and feel.  

Session 4-  Plot Development- 
In this session,  learners will identify and compose the problem and solution of  their narrative.  After reviewing each element, learners will compose a draft of their narrative.  Students will use a checklist to self edit their stories.  If time permits, learners will be given an opportunity to share their stories with other writers in the course.

Students will improve their understanding on what a narrative is.  They will also identify and define  the elements of a narrative  Students will compose their own narrative and have an opportunity to share with others.
