US Grade 1 - 2
While reading instruction is also a passion of mine, this class is designed to celebrate the joy of reading and discussing books. Excitement about books and reading is a huge motivating factor in reading growth. Sometimes readers can get bogged down by the work of reading as they are learning new skills and trying new books. This class is a chance for them to come and tell other readers about a book that they love, to hear about other amazing books, and to hopefully leave feeling excited to read more often! Sharing about a book that they love is also a great way to boost confidence in themselves and as a reader. As they share, other readers will be encouraged to ask questions and engage in conversations about the books. Readers are also welcome to read us a short passage from their book if they would like. During this class, we will celebrate many amazing books and the joy of reading. Each student is invited to bring a book to tell the class about. First, I will model showing the cover of a book, telling the title and the authors/illustrators, giving a brief summary of the book and telling my favorite part or a fun fact if the book is non-fiction. Then, students will be invited to share their books. This class is for young readers; therefore some readers may show us the cover and their favorite part while others may choose to tell the author/illustrator and more details. I will kindly encourage each reader to share whatever they feel comfortable and confident sharing. This class is all about sharing the joy of reading and hopefully hearing about some new books readers might like to try for themselves. For this class, I would like to encourage readers to share books that are picture books, early reader non-fiction books, or beginning level chapter books. If you're child is interested in discussing more advanced chapter books, I have an ongoing class called Avid Reader Book Club: What Are You Reading This Week? (Ages: 7-10), where some students share longer chapter books along with picture books, non-fiction books... Reading entire books together is not a part of this class; however, I may read a portion of the book that I am sharing, as time allows. I will post a list of all of the books that were shared during class in the Outschool Classroom after class so readers will have access to the books that were shared. I hope each reader leaves class proud about their sharing experience and excited to try some new books. Please have a pencil, crayons, and paper handy for class. We may do a short activity based off of one of the books at the end of class if there is time (this depends mostly on the number of students and amount of sharing during class).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Families,
My name is Danielle Day. I have a passion for inspiring young learners! I have a degree in Elementary Education. I have taught in both homeschool and public elementary school settings over the the last 18 years. I have also taught ESL online. Aside from teaching, I have coached basketball and a Building Brick League Team. I think learning should be authentic, engaging, and fun! My husband and I have 3 sons. As a family, we enjoy playing games, reading, riding our bikes, building with building bricks, and exploring nature.
- If you do not see dates listed for a class, that does not mean that I'm no long teaching the class or that it isn't awesome. It just means that right now, I have more class ideas than available hours in the day. I try to balance opening a variety of classes and leaving myself some time to be able to accommodate requested classes. Please never hesitate to send me a message requesting that I open more sessions of a class!
I hope to meet your learner(s) in class soon!
Have a great day,
Mrs. Day
