This course is designed to help students become more confident in speaking about their personal beliefs, thoughts and opinions while focusing on what makes them special. This will be an art and discussion based class, where learners will create a specific art project each week that coincides with our discussion topic. This class can be used as a drop in or to complete the entire 3 weeks. Week 1: We will discuss physical attributes we love about ourselves while creating a self-portrait. The students will then work on giving and accepting compliments to and from fellow learners in the class. Week 2: Our discussion is based around what “Self Love” means to them. In our art project, we will create a mirror with positive things to say to ourselves. We will also discuss and create a list of various ways to practice self-love, from taking time to do something we love or wearing our favorite color. Week 3: In this week's class, we will create a list of "self compliments". Students will again reflect on what they like about themselves and create a list or poster of the compliments they not only receive but also think about themselves. We will then discuss why positive words are important, how we can share more positive words and how they make us feel. I look forward to seeing their art work and sharing in positive discussions with your learner. Students should have an understanding of self-love and be able to list and discuss positive things about themselves.
Learning Goals
Students will become more aware of their attributes and special qualities that make them unique.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Southern New Hampshire University
My experience of building up the emotions of girls comes from 7 years as the leader of a Girls Empowerment Group in my town. Through many lessons and positive assurance at home, I have assisted Kindergarteners grow and mature into strong and confident young teens. I have also undergone extensive training when dealing with the emotions of children as they grow, through the Applied Behavior Analysis work I have personally done and studied to help my own child. Through the 4 years of self study and participation in my child's lessons I have learned ways to speak openly and unbiased on the struggles that children may go through as they age and mature. This has helped me in creating lessons for the Empowerment Group I lead but also helped me grow and help more as a teacher and parent.
