In this class, Students will go through the "Mighty Moe" workbook for children. Students will need to print out the book. A link for the book will be provided when you enroll in the class. The breakdown of the class is as follows: Week 1: I will read the story of Mighty Moe and we will discuss what big feelings are, what they "say" to us, and what they "do" to us. Students will write/draw about their worries/fears, etc. We will discuss these as students feel comfortable sharing. Week 2: Students will learn about the connection between their mind and their body. We will discuss how what you do and think effects how you feel. We will start to talk about the fact that there are things that you can do to help manage big feelings. (Specifics will be discussed in future weeks.) Week 3: Students will learn about "body cues" that occur when they experience different "big feelings." They will learn how these cues can help them identify their feelings. Week 4: Making healthy choices with food and being active to help manage "big feelings." Week 5: We will discuss different relaxation tools including deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation. Week 6: Replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts. Week 7: Writing/drawing "big feelings" to help sort them out. Week 8: Identify situations that commonly elicit "big feelings" and make a personalized general calm down plan and a specialized calm down plan. (Students will need 8.5x11 or larger paper, glue/tape, and scissors for this week of the class.) Week 9: Learning to use all of your tools together - students will identify when feelings are just starting, getting bigger, and are out of control. They will identify what tools they can use at each level, and why it is easier to deal with uncomfortable feelings when they are just starting. Week 10: Using your tools to problem solve & class wrap up. ***This class is not meant to be or replace professional therapy. This class provides students with tools to manage common feelings such as anger, anxiety, and sadness that everyone experiences and needs to understand how to manage to function at their highest level.***
