This course is for students in high school that struggle to write or for students that are reluctant writers. I created this section particular for older students to review basic writing skills in an engaging environment amongst their peers. It is my teaching philosophy that every student has the ability to improve and strengthen their writing. This class is taught in English.
Students will learn to use the writing process to help alleviate anxiety from a writing assignment and ensure it is polished. Students will be to write an engaging hook. Students will be able to write a three-point thesis. Students will be able to construct a well-developed paragraph. Students will write a topic sentence. Students will use supporting details in a paragraph. Students will use varied sentence structure in their writing. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of reviewing written work for conciseness, clarity, and grammar.
I have over eight years of experience teaching composition and writing to students of all ages.
Students will submit sentences, paragraphs, and final drafts of their typed essay within one week after class ends. All submissions will receive feedback. Parents Please Note: I will keep homework to a minimum, but students that take this course need opportunities outside of class to apply what they have learned to their writing. I also feel it is important for their work to be reviewed and given feedback, so that they begin taking accountability for their own learning.

40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
GoogleDocs does require the use of a gmail account. Please ensure your learner has an account set up. This platform will be used for submitting writing and receiving feedback on written assignments. Please Note: You can create a Google Account for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country), and manage it using Family Link. With Google Accounts, children get access to Google products like Search, Chrome, and Gmail, and you can set up basic digital ground rules to supervise them.
Once students are enrolled, I will upload the workbook for the class. The workbook will include all of the written homework assignments, essay writing prompts, and model paragraphs and essays written by the teacher.
