Class Experience

At the end of 4 weeks learners should be able to play 3 notes B A G. If they have practiced and completed the activities they should also be able to play a number of rhythms and songs, and be able to recognise B A G, bar lines, quarter notes (crotchets), eighth notes (quavers), and quarter note (crotchet) rests on the stave.
I have been learning and playing music since I was a small girl. I play piano, flute, saxophone, guitar and of course the recorder. I have played in bands and have also worked in a recording studio where I frequently played on backing tracks for singers. I have taught in English secondary schools for many years covering a wide range of subjects but specialising in music.
I have several successful recorder classes here on Outschool and have been lucky enough to receive amazing reviews. This course is informed by the reviews I have received and my experiences in Outschool classes with learners. Just like your learners, as a teacher I am always learning, finding new and more innovative ways of doing things.
It is essential that learners commit to between 10 -15 minutes a day practice which includes time to complete the activities, parents should be prepared to encourage this.
It is essential that learners have a descant/soprano recorder. Baroque or German fingering is fine but please know which you have and be able to tell teacher in class when asked; spotting the difference - Baroque, count from the hole at the top - the fourth hole is smaller than the fifth hole. German, the fourth hole is bigger than the fifth. At this stage it is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a recorder, they can be purchased online for around $10. However, for not a lot more you can buy a good quality Yamaha or Aulos recorder ( I've had my Aulos recorder for 46 years, excellent value for money!)
Assessment will be in class and in writing after class. Each learner will receive personalised tips for improvement each week.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
All learning material will be provided by the teacher and will be available for download each week before class.
