Beginner Level
Does your child like to learn things in unique ways? Would you like your child to learn the names of the 50 United States? Come to my classroom where we will use mnemonic devices to learn US states. I will use google slides to demonstrate different mnemonic devices to help them memorize the names of different states. Students will learn different mnemonic devices to help them remember the names of different states. We will be learning a few states each week and I will provide a printable worksheet for learners to fill out for future review. After class, learners will play a fun short Kahoot game to assess what states they learned and which states they need to review. Each week learners will have a video, (using mnemonic devices to learn US states) and a Kahoot! game-style quiz and worksheets for review. During the week, I will also send random pictures of states for learners to identify to assist them in recognizing the shapes of different states. This class requires downloading a separate free app, Kahoot, which you can download to your phone or iPad. Kahoot is a free student-response tool for administering quizzes; usebe using it as a game show. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my class. My name is Teacher Wendy. I have worked in education for over ten years including substitute teaching and as an intervention specialist. I have been teaching online for over six years; I am certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have an A.A. in History at Austin Community College and a B.A. in History, with a minor in English at Texas State University. I am a homeschool mom to three kids, two are differently-abled. I have struggled with dyslexia my whole life and I know personally how hard it can be to learn simple things that others take for granted. It is my personal mission to help people like me that are differently-abled learners.
I am most passionate about teaching tween students, however, I love teaching anyone with a heart to learn. When I am teaching tweens I find it’s best to be authentically interested and curious about their ideas, feelings, and experiences. Actively and purposefully listening to what they share gives me a better idea of how to support them. I prefer teaching skills through a multisensory approach and I live for those moments when a student's "light bulb goes off". Learning doesn't have to be boring, and by incorporating a little fun and lots of silliness, learning can be fantastic! I really enjoy educating tweens and entertaining, I call it edge-uh-tain. I like to incorporate positive encouragement and praise to assist my students and help with class management. Won't you join me on this wonderful and whimsical ride? I hope to see you in my classroom!
