All students in this class will learn the beginning stages of music theory. Subjects will include note duration, time and key signatures, learning about sharps and flats and the treble and bass clefs. I will give examples and explain each subject to them via PowerPoint and/or handouts e-mailed to them. I will start the students from scratch so the only background knowledge that is needed is the willingness and desire to learn and have fun. I will assign homework in each class and have an...
Students will learn the basics of music theory.
The reason I am teaching this class is because I would love to incorporate my three passions/loves: teaching, children and music. I have been teaching music to ages 4 to adult for almost 20 years. I possess a BA in Music Performance, pursuing my MBA in Music Business and have extensive training and knowledge in music theory. I believe that in order to learn something, you have to have the desire to learn it first and each teacher has to operate in the student's individual pace. I will teach at a level that basic and intermediate students can grasp.
Each week we will learn about a specific topic. The homework will vary based on what topic is discussed, but it will be taught in a way that the students will easily learn it, and it will be fun for them as well. Homework should not take very long, possibly an hour tops, but if student needs more help, topic will be reviewed in the next class before learning the next topic.
Handouts with examples that can be downloaded. Possible PowerPoint slides available.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed orally in a fun game similar to "Hot Potato." Teacher will ask a question and the student who says it first will get a point. It's possible they will be on teams as well.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
