We will welcome each student and ask if they know one thing for which they are thankful. If they would like, they may draw a picture to share of what they tell about. We will talk about what Thanksgiving time is like in their family and will share favorite foods or activities. We will share a seasonal song. We will learn to say "thank you" using ASL. Using slides, we will share a story, written by me, that shows examples of things in our lives for which we might feel gratitude. We will talk...
In this Circle Time class they will learn: What it means to be thankful and what gratitude means. About different things in their lives for which they might be thankful. Some ways that they may show their gratitude through words, actions and creativity. How to listen and take turns in a virtual classroom setting. How to use critical thinking to come up with ways to show their gratitude.
For 23 years as a lead Montessori teacher, I led activities, discussions and practice in feeling and showing gratitude in the Thanksgiving season and throughout the year. We used modeling, role-play and stories to help with understanding and practicing this concept. We also practiced common ASL words and phrases throughout that time to expand each child's communication skills.
I will provide some optional worksheets that the child may complete at any time. If they want to draw during class, they will need drawing utensils.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
