Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome to our chess enrichment and club! This class is designed for young learners who want to sharpen their chess skills while having fun in a supportive and collaborative environment. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to advance your game, this class offers something for everyone. Together, we’ll explore strategies, patterns, and techniques to help students grow as players and teammates.

Students will learn:
	•	How to be a part of a team and collaborate effectively
	•	How to identify strong moves and build solid strategies
	•	Recognizable checkmate patterns
	•	Fun and creative ways to approach chess, and much more!

Class Experience:
In each session, I use examples from master title games to inspire and challenge learners. Occasionally, I’ll introduce a fun and popular opening trap to keep things exciting. My teaching approach emphasizes interactive learning, problem-solving, and active participation. No prior knowledge is required—just a love for chess and a willingness to learn!

I’m passionate about teaching chess and aim to make every session engaging, encouraging, and enriching. Learners can expect a mix of game analysis, practice exercises, and mini-games designed to build confidence and mastery over time.

Topics and Themes:
Each week, we’ll explore a new concept or skill, building upon previous lessons. Topics repeat every seven weeks to reinforce learning and mastery.
	•	Week of December 16: Farmers vs. Pigs – A mini-game for pawn promotion
	•	Week of December 30: Check and Checkmates
	•	Week of January 6 How to Checkmate in Four Moves (and How to Stop It!)
	•	Week of January 13: Good Openings – Starting Strong
	•	Week of January 27: Opera House Game and Paul Morphy – Chess History Highlights
	•	Week of February 3: Crazyhouse – A Fun Chess Variant
	•	Week of February 10: Chess King Day – Celebrating Creativity on the Board

After seven weeks, we’ll revisit these topics to deepen understanding and skill development.

Class Policies and Expectations:
	•	Communication and additional resources will be shared in the class welcome post.
	•	Students are encouraged to participate actively and respectfully.

Join us for an exciting journey into the world of chess, where strategy meets fun! Let’s play, learn, and grow together as a team.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Have been teaching chess for 15 years

Have loved chess for a lifetime. I started playing with my grandfather, former WWII intelligence, when I was 5. He taught me how to play and how to love playing.

Experience with children- I have two of my own children at home and on Outschool.

Experience with children- I have always enjoyed working with children because kids are the best, and because of my mother. My mother was a kindergarten teacher for 20 years, helping her in her classrooms is where I discovered I love teaching children.

Also, Club Tournament Director certified.
