A two day class to review Mendelian Genetics using human traits that are controlled by only one pair of genes.
Class experience
In the first session, we will do a human genetics activity. Students will probably need to use a mirror, and possibly another person, to help them identify the single gene traits on their faces, such as features of their noses and ears. We will also examine the single gene traits visible on their hands, such as finger length and curvature. Students will be able to describe basic Mendelian genetics as it applies to humans and our single gene traits. Students will be able to explain the vocabulary words dominant and recessive, genotype and phenotype, and make a simple Punnett square to predict offspring traits.
