Human Biology Lab: Guided Dissection & Models (Cow Eye / Human Eye)
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
Let's take a closer look at the human eye - learners be given an overview of the human eye and eyes of other animals, then will put together a detailed, 3D model of the human eye. This kinesthetic experience allows for better understanding of the specific parts of the eye. We will then use a numeric key to identify the parts and function of the eye. Once finished putting together and studying the model, there will be a video dissection of a real cow eye! Learners can watch and compare the...
To study the anatomy of the human eye using 3D paper model and numeric key. Compare the human eye with other animals. Study actual cow eye to better understand human eye.
I have now completed multiple sections of Biology Essentials: Dissection Alternatives and have incorporated student feedback to improve these classes. Color models, more step by step pictures, opportunity to practice dissecting non-animal specimens, practice pinning models. Information about function of external and internal parts is presented lecture style as students put together models. I enjoy these classes in that they highlight unique characteristics of each animal, and also help easily see similarities between animal systems. It is a most interesting study! I taught Biology lab in-person at local co-op for a few years, multiple biology lab sections each year. I have dissected a variety of real specimens: earth worms, crayfish, frogs and perch. I have helped students learn dissection throughout the lab courses and helped them learn to see things that are difficult to recognize when still a novice in lab techniques. I hope to help your student grow in confidence and lab experience, as I help guide their studies. You can learn a lot from books, but there is no substitute for the experience of real hand's on learning and seeing the wonders of Biology. The reason I love specifically Biology, is that it seems so simple, however when you look closer either microscopic or macroscopic the complexity is just awesome.
