COURSE STANDARDS: This is an 8-week course that is designed to increase student's ability to: -Demonstrate the importance of understanding culture to solve problems -Interpret maps and analyze map data with critical thinking skills to understand the direct or indirect message of the map and its maker -Understand and explain the implications of associations and connections among phenomena in places -Discuss the meaning of changes in political boundaries -Apply geographic skills, questions and problem-solving to understand emerging and ongoing world events -Characterize and analyze changing interconnections among places -Apply critical thinking skills to inquire and apply geography concepts to new situations -Analyze the complex interactions between humans and their physical geography -Analyze changes in geographic regions, natural resources, and populations to predict future challenges
Students will be provided with weekly handouts & maps to be discussed in class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS: 1) Students' cameras and microphones must be in working order and turned on during the class. 2) This class requires the continuous use of logical thinking & hypothetical reasoning skills to critically analyze the topics covered in the class. These cognitive functions are generally not sufficiently developed until a student is 13+ years old. Therefore, the minimum required age to register is 13 years. No underage students, please. The age limit will be enforced. Students must have the ability to think critically and logically to analyze the topics covered in the class.
