HS Statistics I (Investigating Data): Unit 1 (of 3): Analyzing Categorical Data

In this 6 week online course, students will learn about different ways to collect and present categorical data. Course will culminate with survey project where they will collect and present their own data.

Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Learning Outcomes for completing the entire 3 units of Stats 1:
1 I can Analyze categorical variables
2 I can construct and interpret two-way a two-way table summarizing data on two categorical variables collected from the same subjects.
3 I can represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, and box plots).
4 I describe and compare distributions
5 I can calculate measures of central tendency.
6 I can calculate interquartile range.
7 I can understand measures of spread.
8 I can analyze data using a variety of methods for a given situation
9 I can make inferences and justify conclusions from sample surveys, experiments, and observational studies.
10 I can take data and communicate results in an effective way.

NYS Professional Certified Teacher - Mathematics 7th-12th grades. 
NYC HS Math teacher of 18 years.
Masters in Special Education 7th-12th.
Students will be expected to practice what they learn in class. Final project will be assigned on week 5 and need to be completed by week 6. Quizzes may also be assigned for homework. Students will have one week to complete.
Weekly handouts will be provided. Please print before each class.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
