Class Experience

This class will be covering the second twelve chapters of Howard Zinn's A Young People's History of the United States. Being a FLEX class, it is primarily for the student who plans to read the text and needs a little guidance for understanding, a source to ask questions when needed, and prefers to discuss larger ideas online with peers. Each week a list of comprehension questions will be posted. These questions will serve as a guide and the basis of our online conversations. The comprehension questions are in order of the text and are meant to draw readers attention to main ideas and supporting details. It is extremely helpful to complete them however not required. Also shared will be a selection of videos related to the chapter and/or a corresponding activity. Activities may include mini quizes, webquests, escape rooms, and picture analysis. Lastly, each week a thought question will be shared in the classroom. Students will engage with each other, sharing their thoughts on the question as well responding to a minimum of one other peer.
No prior knowledge is needed. It is important to note that this text presents history often from the perspective of various marginalized groups, and uses primary resources and historical notes.
