Students will learn the causes of World War I. The course will be part lecture, activities (including Digital Breakouts) and discussion. The schedule for this class will be as follows: Week 1- Assassination of Franz Ferdinand and Nationalism- Students will learn about nationalism and why nationalism led to the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. They will also learn about the geopolitical struggles in the reason that also led to the assassination Week 2- Militarism- how did the buildup of nations' militaries caused World War II. We will discover why everyone felt the need to build up their military Week 3 - Alliances- Why was everyone pulled into the War? Alliances are complicated systems that often pull more people into the War. We will discover what systems of Alliances led to all out War! Week 4- Imperialism part 1- What is Imperialism? Why were so many people after other land that did not belong to them? Week 5- How did Imperialism cause the War? Why was the scramble for territory a catalyst for war? ; We will wrap up the class
Learning Goals
Students will learn the M.A.I.N. Causes of World War I. They will have an understanding of each of the M.A.I.N. Causes. They will also build vocabulary throughout the lessons as well as gaining digital literacy and problem solving skills.
