Students will learn to write personal essays and essays for the Common Application
I have been a writer for 25+ years and a teacher since 2004. The approach that I teach is informed by my work as a graduate student at Boston University, a technical writer and editor at Clemson University, and many professional development courses and workshops, most notably the Institute for Writing and Thinking at Bard College and the EmPower Method from Architects for Learning. In addition, I have taught a version of this course previously, at Western Reserve Academy, where I also worked with college counseling to guide students through the college application process.
Homework Offered
Students will be expected to write two drafts of a 500-1000 word essay each week.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Students will receive feedback through conferencing and asynchronous commenting on Google DocsGrades Offered
You'll need to bring full-sized lined paper and a few pencils to class, in addition to your computer and, ideally, headphones. =)
Students will be invited to read aloud often.
