Class Experience

In this class, we will discuss how to write an effective essay from a writing prompt. This class will provide students with the skills to be able to write an essay on demand for state testing as well as for any school subject and will build upon skills learned in How to Write an Essay Part 1. Starting on Monday we will discuss the parts of an essay and how to organize an essay using a graphic organizer called the SRE. In this course, we will learn more advanced ways of using the graphic organizer to further enhance and improve essay writing. This strategy has been used through the years with my students with much success. Students will also write an introduction to their essay. On Tuesday, we will discuss more advanced writing strategies for the body paragraphs and students will begin working on the body paragraphs of their essay. On Wednesday, we will discuss more advanced strategies for writing a proper conclusion and students will create the conclusion to their essay. On Thursday, we will discuss more advanced revising and editing strategies and students will revise and edit their essay to make their essays truly shine and stand out from the rest! Friday will be a day of celebration as we share our work with the class and reflect on the process. Throughout the class, students will be able to collaborate with the teacher and each other regarding their essay. There will be daily review regarding the parts of the essay. This class will also encourage more peer conferencing and feedback time to enhance the essay writing process as well as the final product.

I strive to make my classroom an inviting, safe, and happy place where all learners can grow. My goal is to offer a well-rounded Language Arts program taught in a fun and encouraging environment. I teach a variety of classes focusing on reading comprehension, writing, poetry, and oral language skills. I also offer one on one tutoring as well. I have something to meet the needs of all types of learners! I even have life skills classes and some fun pet classes where we learn how to care for bunnies, cats, gerbils, and hamsters! I can’t wait to meet your child!

When I am not teaching, I love to read, write, research best practices of teaching, crochet, play board games with my family, and take family vacations to learn more about nature, science, and history. You can often find me reading a book on time management or how to organize and clean your home more effectively! I love learning! Let's learn and have fun together!
